When did you first get into art?
“I got into art when I was really young, maybe five or six. I started taking professional art lessons in the summer since I was nine. I did those for about three or four summers and then I took some classes at the Artists’ Association.”
How were you introduced to art?
“I used to watch my aunt draw characters in anime-style for hours at a time.”
What was your favorite piece to make? Why?
“I’m not sure what my favorite piece has been. I have some portraits that I made that I really like; I also have some digital art pieces and oil paintings that I’m really proud of. One digital design I made is a spiderweb in the shape of Nantucket, with a spider hanging from the Great Point area. In my freshman year, I loved my Odyssey Project I made; I spent hours and hours on it, staying up until midnight the night before it was due to finish it. I really like how creative and elaborate that project was, and it involved techniques and styles that I hadn’t explored much before, such as using clay, leather, sewing and fabric painting, wood painting, sanding and burning/carving into one project.”
What or who are some of your inspirations?
“Some of my inspirations are my aunts and my art teachers. Recently I’ve been inspired by Carol Marine’s paintings.”
Do you plan on pursuing art in the future?
“I am considering pursuing an art career in the future, but I’m also considering biology and theology as well…hopefully I’ll find a way to do all three.”
What are your favorite mediums to use? Why?
“I have the most experience in painting and basket weaving, however. I love to do different things with art… I love how many options there are.”
